ORGANIZE A waste collection
Ocean Initiatives is Surfrider Foundation’s flagship programme which tackles the problem of aquatic waste by mobilising the public in three ways: education, participatory science and lobbying.
These initiatives take the form of beach, lake, river and seabed clean-ups, organised all over the world. What makes them unique? They are run by volunteer citizens, with the support and expertise of the Surfrider Foundation, to make a real and lasting impact.
- Open Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.30pm
- Open to the public

Why organise a collection?
Organising a litter pick is much more than a simple gesture for the planet: it’s a concrete action that brings people together and raises awareness of the pollution of our natural spaces. The aim is not to ‘clean up’ the beaches completely – a task that would be impossible – but rather to collect as much rubbish as possible while gathering valuable data on its nature and origin. This information is used to draw up an essential environmental balance sheet, which not only helps us to better understand the sources of pollution, but also to carry out lobbying actions.
These reports are used to influence political decision-makers at European level, so that fairer environmental policies can be put in place.
