After six years of work, an official report docume After six years of work, an official report documents pellet losses from several petrochemical plants in Tarragona!

Last week, key information that we have been waiting for for years was made public: a report by the Rural Agents identifying Repsol Química as one of the main sources of pellet pollution, along with Ravago Plásticos and Chemieuro, responsible for spills that have been traveling for years in the Mediterranean Sea.

This comes as no surprise to those who have been following this issue for a long time:
📍 We have been denouncing this pollution since 2019.
📍 In January 2022, Le Monde devoted an in-depth report to this issue, with photos of pipes filled with pellets.
📍 Last week, after six years of constant work with @surfriderespana, @goodkarmaprojects and @instajuridic, this information is being made public with official support.

This is not a victory, but it is an important step forward! 🙌

With the evidence available, we are confident that the public prosecutor's office will be able to take advantage of this turning point to pursue the case and move towards real and proportionate liability for the damage caused.

This process demonstrates something essential: perseverance pays off! ✊ Thanks to it, we achieved regulatory progress even before the European regulation on pellets was adopted, and we kept alive a case that many considered closed.

We are continuing our efforts. Because now, we are no longer facing denial but facing the evidence!

A new report from the European Commission is sound A new report from the European Commission is sounding the alarm on PFAS.

The figures released today highlight the enormous cost of these “forever chemicals” to the environment and human health a human and financial burden borne by society as a whole, which could grow even further if no action is taken:

🔴 If nothing is done, this pollution could cost the EU nearly €440 billion by 2050.
🔴 Simply treating contaminated water, without reducing emissions, could exceed €1 trillion.
✅ By contrast, acting at the source and halting pollution by 2040 could save around €110 billion.

And these figures are likely to be significantly underestimated: the report covers only a handful of PFAS substances currently regulated, compared with the thousands of PFAS that exist.

Why is this such a major issue? ⚠️
PFAS are everywhere. Used for decades for their highly resistant properties (to water, heat, and grease), these substances are extremely persistent and mobile, and they accumulate both in the environment and in our bodies. Exposure to PFAS is now linked to numerous health risks (including certain cancers, hormonal disorders, fertility issues, and thyroid diseases), as well as severe damage to aquatic ecosystems.

In the face of this widespread contamination, the EU’s Zero Pollution objective can only be achieved through the adoption of strong measures.
The message of the report is clear 👉 prevention is far more effective and far less costly than cleanup.

📣 It is urgent to accelerate the adoption of a universal restriction currently under assessment by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and to ensure that EU legislation includes ambitious measures to monitor and eliminate this pollution at its source, while guaranteeing effective protection for the population.
Wishing you all a wonderful 2026! 🎉 Thanks to Wishing you all a wonderful 2026! 🎉

Thanks to your support in 2025, we turned small actions into major victories for the Ocean:
📣 Historic progress: our advocacy helped secure the inclusion of our demands in the European Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive and led to the adoption of a regulation to prevent industrial plastic pellet losses.
✊ Strong mobilisation at key international events, including UNOC and the negotiations for a global plastics treaty.
We also celebrated 35 years of action and impact!

In 2026, we’re setting our sights even higher!
We want to grow our impact with more on-the-ground actions, more citizen science data, and stronger advocacy to protect coastlines and the health of people everywhere.

To make it happen, we need you!

These small plastic pellets should never end up in These small plastic pellets should never end up in the environment. Yet every day, our volunteers collect them by the thousands. ⚠️

Production, transport, lost containers at sea… Pellets escape at every stage of the industrial supply chain and end up in the Ocean. 🌊

So we investigated. Challenged. Documented. Raised the alarm.
And after 2 years of negotiations, a first European regulation has been adopted! ✅

But a law is not enough. It must be enforced. Today, we need you to keep monitoring and taking action so that polluters stop poisoning the Ocean and our beaches. 🔴
