The Castro de Baroña is one of the most impressive ancient cities from the iron age in western Europe. On this rocky coast, erosion and sediment transport are strong. The place’s evolution can be measured on human scale and in the last 30 years changes have been seen. The beaches have less and less sand and the sea attacks the rocks. According to the predictions, the Castro de Baroña will divide into three small islands. There are projects to protect the site from the rise of sea level, but hard measures are not the solution as each construction has an impact on the environment. To choose the best option, we need to take into consideration not only the environment and history, but also the course of events, and accept that everything has an end. Maybe one of the best ways to honor this so emotionally charged place is to enjoy it as it is, respectfully, as long as it is possible.
