Plastic debris poisons marine animals, congests their stomachs and/or sets deadly snares around their bodies. OceanCare points to the plastic problem and the consequences for marine animals and humans (see oceancare.org/plastic). Since roughly 80% of marine plastic debris is land-based and finds its way via untreated wastewater, wind, rivers and directly from the beach to the oceans, we can all influence the state of beaches and habitats of marine life directly. OceanCare motivates to rethink our daily handling of plastic items according to the 3R motto: “Reduce, remove and rescue”
